Monday Dread / Work Stress

For when you feel: hate my job, Sunday scaries, dreading tomorrow, work is crushing me

Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men:

The MinuteHomily

Sunday evening arrives and the dread comes with it, the inbox already writing itself in your head before the week begins. Paul wrote to workers whose situations were far harder than a difficult boss, and he handed them a revolution in one phrase: "as to the Lord." Your true employer is not the one who signs the paycheck or skips the thank-yous. Every spreadsheet, shift, diaper, and delivery can be quietly re-addressed to Him before you begin it. That does not make a toxic job holy; sometimes the faithful move is a new job, and God guides exits too. But it does mean tomorrow's work cannot be meaningless, because its Audience is never absent and never unappreciative. Punch in for Him. It changes the shift before it changes the job.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, receive tomorrow's work as worship. Give me diligence, protect my heart from dread, and if it's time for a change, open that door too. Amen.

“Do small things with great love.”

after St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Hymns for this moment

One small step

Tonight, dedicate tomorrow's first task to God by name, then do it heartily.
